ABOUT "Lord" LAURENCE OLIVIER (1907 - 1989)

Distinguished British stage actor who was known as the greatest actor of his time. In fact, the Queen of England Knighted him for his talents.

Sir Laurence Olivier made his Broadway debut in 1929 in MURDER ON THE SECOND FLOOR.

In 1940 he married actress Vivien Leigh (GONE WITH THE WIND).

In addition to appearing in 1944's HENRY V Laurence Olivier produced and co-directed it. In 1946 he received a special Oscar for his achievements as actor, producer, and director in bringing HENRY V to the screen.

In 1978 Laurence Olivier received an Honorary Award for the full body of his entire career and his lifetime of contribution to the art of film.

Please note he also produced and directed HAMLET and it was the first foreign film to win the Best Picture Oscar.
